Overview

Milbank LLP is seeking a dynamic, highly organized, and motivated individual for the role of Conflicts Analyst in the Conflicts Department, supporting the firm globally, and working alongside the Legal Risk & Compliance team. This is an exciting opportunity to assist attorneys with their compliance responsibilities by analyzing data associated with potential new business and new employees, while contributing to the success of the Firm. The Conflicts Analyst will work closely with Conflicts Attorneys, members of the Office of the General Counsel, the Legal Risk and Compliance team, the Conflicts Team, and various other firm administrative departments to identify possible ethical and business-related conflicts of interest while assisting in the processing of new business intake forms and other information to ensure new business intake requests and candidates meet Firm policies as well as regulatory and business requirements. Please note this role can be fully remote in the NY tristate area and/or DC area. The office hours are 9amEST-5pmEST. 

Responsibilities

  • Respond to calls, emails, and workflow requests from Firm attorneys, paralegals, and legal secretaries regarding the new business intake process.
  • Process requests for conflicts searches, perform necessary corporate research, and prepare and distribute clearance reports to Conflicts Attorneys and Partners.
  • Work with conflict checking systems and corporate research databases in a law firm environment, including Intapp Open, Intapp Walls, S&P Capital IQ, LexisNexis, and LSEG WorldCheck One.
  • Review and analyze new business intake forms for accuracy, facilitate any changes with requesting partner and submitter, and process for client matter opening.
  • Facilitate the review/approval and appropriate file saving of new business documentation, such as Outside Counsel Guidelines, Engagement Letters, and Waiver letters, including retrieving appropriate approvals for non-standard language and storing in appropriate database.
  • Maintain access to secured matters due to confidentiality or ethical screens in Document Management System and Time Entry System via the use of Intapp Walls.
  • Perform regular maintenance of all associated databases and applications in accordance with department and firm policies and under the direction and supervision of the Conflicts Manager.
  • Familiarity with corporate structure/affiliations and governance models in a global environment.
  • Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities.

The anticipated base salary range offered for this role will be between $70,000 to $85,000 and represents the Firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base compensation range. Actual base compensation will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, performance, qualifications, degrees, and location, as well as the needs of the firm.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Three to four years of experience in risk managment, research, conflicts searching or related experience in a law firm setting.
  • Must be available for occasional overtime during weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience with legal technology platforms such as Intapp Open or similar conflicts systems/databases and research tools is a plus.
  • The ideal individual will have a collaborative mindset, an acute attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in databases and various legal technology platforms.
  • A strong sense of personal accountability for the success of the team and the Firm.
  • Possesses an understanding of law firm risk and its mitigation and understand the meaning of exceptional customer service.
  • Critical thinking, strong judgment, and exceptional decision-making skills.
  • A desire to work in a flexible environment with an ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities is a must.
  • Must interact well with people at all levels with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism
